PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward win in the showdown between the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net early on.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock lead. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
